  • Timmins Library Celebrates ‘Momentous’ Win

This summer, the Timmins Public Library marked a major milestone: they were crowned the English Winner of the 2024 TD Summer Reading Club. This nationwide, bilingual program encourages kids to read for just 20 minutes a day throughout the summer—and then pop into the library each week for a chance to win fun prizes. But let’s be honest: the real reward is discovering new worlds, one page at a time.

Out of 2,200 libraries spanning 10 provinces, Timmins stood head and shoulders above the rest. Over seven weeks, the library’s Summer Reading Club saw membership jump by an astonishing 52% compared to last year—and of the more than 500 kids who signed up, nearly 40% were first-time participants. Together, those young readers tore through 5,080 books!

In recognition of their achievement, the library was awarded $8,000—and they’ve already announced plans to invest it in the children’s department, adding height-adjustable tables and chairs to make reading and programs even more comfortable for little book lovers. Installation is still on its way, but the excitement is already in the air—and the pages are just waiting to be turned.
